What is it used for?
Zelnorm is used to treat pain and sense of discomfort in a bowel, abdominal distention and disturbance of digestive tract in patients with irritable bowel syndrome, the main symptoms of which are pain/discomfort and constipation.
Contraindications and cautions:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of Zelnorm. (Patients with lactose intolerance should pay special attention – each tablet contain some amount of lactose monohydrate);
- severe case of hepatic insufficiency;
- severe renal insufficiency;
- pediatric use (efficiency and safety is not established);
- pregnancy and breast-feeding;
Side effects:
Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
The most common side effects of Zelnorm are:
- headache;
- diarrhea (usually it appears in the first week of treatment and resolves with continued therapy, if you get so much diarrhea that you get lightheaded, dizzy, or faint or if the diarrhea is accompanied by severe cramping or abdominal pain stop taking Zelnorm right away and contact your doctor immediately);
Very rare side effects:
- ischemic colitis. If you have the symptoms of ischemic colitis such as rectal bleeding, bloody diarrhea or new or worsening abdominal pain stop taking Zelnorm and consult you doctor immediately.
Interactions:
No drug interactions were detected during medical tests. Anyway, inform your doctor about any other medicines you may take and do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine without consulting with your doctor. |
